New Trailer for Shane Black's THE PREDATOR

I'm just gonna leave this here and we'll discuss after you've had a chance to watch it...

It looks fine. But we do have a couple of things to unpack here, starting with...

What the hell is going on with the giant CGI super Predator there towards the end?! Have they created the Indominus Rex of Predators?

Full disclosure: I'd probably see any movie that involves these creatures, regardless of the quality of any trailers. I'll go on record as being a fan of the 2010 Nimród Antal/Robert Rodriguez PREDATORS (even though I've only seen it once; it may be time for a revisit), and pretty much anything involving a Predator that doesn't also involve a Xenomorph.

But this one's a bit different because it's got Shane Black attached to it and with Shane Black's name comes certain... expectations.

And the biggest takeaway from this trailer is that it simply doesn't feel like a Shane Black movie. And maybe that's just a marketing thing. Maybe the final product will involve a couple of mismatched bros trading quips and a Christmas tree or two, but for now, it looks like any journeyman director could have made this thing.

Still: it looks fine. I'll hold off judgement for the final product and I will, undoubtedly, be in the theater to see this opening weekend.   And I am actually somewhat intrigued by the idea of a giant Predator that hunts other Predators, even if I'm not thrilled with him being CGI. (One of the great joys of the PREDATOR franchise is knowing that there's a guy in that suit. Sometimes it's even Jean Claude Van Damme!)

Oh, and while we're here, let's take a look at this poster that dropped today to, which is pretty badass:
