Trailer: JJ Abrams' OVERLORD is Not a Cloverfield Movie

The latest film to come out of JJ Abrams Bad Robot empire was originally reported to be another installment in the CLOVERFIELD franchise, but Abrams denied those claims back in April at CinemaCon (though one does have to wonder if the lackluster reception to THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX had something to do with possibly changing those plans).

The CLOVERFIELD films are only tangentially connected anyway and after the disastrous Netflix release for the third film in the franchise, it probably would've been an easy fix to take out any references that would make it fit into that universe (since this is set in WW2, that could've been as easy as deleting a scene of a giant monster popping out of the ground at the end).

At any rate, despite what it began as, the film — directed by Julius Avery, with a script by Billy Ray based on a story concept from Ray and Abrams — is coming soon and based on this first trailer, looks pretty great.

The film stars Jovan Adepo (THE LEFTOVERS), Jacob Anderson (GAME OF THRONES), Pilou Asbæk (also GAME OD THRONES), Iain De Caestecker (AGENTS OF SHIELD), John Magaro (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Wyatt Russell (BLACK MIRROR) and Bokeem Woodbine (FARGO, and THE BIG HIT). It hits theaters November 9, 2018.

What do you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to it or are you still burned by THE CLOVERFIELD PARADOX?
