Netflix has been on a roll lately with their original programming, roping in big name performers like Will Smith and Sandra Bullock, and lately, some big name directors like the Coen Brothers and Alfonso Cuarón.

One of their latest comes from NIGHTCRAWLER director Dan Gilroy, reteaming with that film’s star Jake Gyllenhaal and an incredible supporting cast for VELVET BUZZSAW, a story that’s been described as a thriller set in the world of contemporary art.

But from where we’re sitting, this looks like a straight up horror flick, and we are stoked on it.

This definitely looks to go back to the dark, surreal and satirical tone of NIGHTCRAWLER that was missing from Gilroy’s ROMAN J. ISRAEL, ESQ, and we couldn’t be more here for it. Here’s the official synopsis:

Velvet Buzzsaw is a thriller set in the contemporary art world scene of Los Angeles where big money artists and mega-collectors pay a high price when art collides with commerce. Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo, Toni Collette, Zawe Ashton, Tom Sturridge, Natalia Dyer, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen, and John Malkovich star in the new mind-bending film written and directed by Dan Gilroy.

VELVET BUZZSAW debuts at the Sundance Film Festival in a couple of weeks before premiering on Netflix on February 1st.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for it?
